
The New York Times’ Green Inc. blog recently wrote about the growth in Federal and state incentives for using residential wind power.
According to Green Inc., a small wind turbine can cost anywhere from USD 12,000 to 70,000 once installation fees are included. 17 states now offer some form of rebate, although the rebate may actually be provided through the local utility. Maine has offered USD 2,000 in rebates for residents installing wind turbines, and in Colorado, some utilities are offering up to USD 10,000.
The Federal government has added a 30 percent tax credit for those adding wind turbines. This measure was included in the 2008 bail-out package and designed as a boost for renewable and alternative energies.
