This is NOT a budget cut. It is a reduction in the spending increase. If all of these horrible things will happen even though we will still spend more money this year than we did last year, the federal government is seriously out of control. To top it off, our profession is contributing. We need to shift our focus from sustainable environments to sustainable economies. We have become so dependent on government money in one form or another that half of us will be out of work when the economy really crashes. Ask yourself this: is it more important to fund 10 trail projects than to send an aircraft carrier back to the Persian Gulf? Unfortunately, we have a president that is going to hurt the American people as hard as he can with these “cuts” in an attempt to show the people how much they need the federal government. If our profession can’t thrive without government handouts, then we should look in the mirror and ask ourselves what it is exactly that we are contributing to this country.

I’d be interested to see if salary, pension, or vacation benefit reduction in these agencies is even on the table.

Nice of you to include a photo of the Republican leader with the comment “Some Capitol Hill watchers argue that no real negotiations are taking place (or even civil dialogue, as can be seen above)”. Really shows how “non partisan” our organization is. Obama must not be at fault for any of this mess?
